Conceived Bully in City Paper

Conceived Bully, curated by JC One, has been reviewed by Lissa Brennan in the City Paper. To our great delight! The exhibit really is phenomenal. Stay tuned, we have a special event in the works.

Following is an excerpt from A Digging Pitt exhibit highlights street art as a cooperative form.

Conceived Bully, on view at Digging Pitt Gallery, is an outstanding example of American urban art realized to its fullest potential. The yield of each of the three artists featured -- JC One (who also curated), MCA/Evil Design and MAGMO -- embodies the fundamentals of street art that herald urban aesthetic as a cooperative form. At once, each emerges as a distinctly individual creator while participating in a global artistic movement that gravitates more toward concrete than marble. And while all the stimulus bestowed by the relatively young traditions of their forbears is evident, that history has been digested and built upon rather than merely echoed. Read article
Conceived Bully, through October 27. Join us for the closing reception.

The greatest things in life happen in an instant. A spark of love, the moment of conception, the birth of ideas, news ways to think, see, move and create. A dancer or jazz musician acknowledges and strings these instances together in an outward flow of emotion, celebrating all that has been set before them and resides within them. This too happens with painting, and is painting. But responding to these spark impulses with color, line, rhythm, and balance.

Join us for Sushi, Subs and Sake on Saturday, September 29th as we celebrate of the work of artists TK Mundok and Lucas B. Miller!

New Invisible Joy is ready to play live again, with a fresh batch of tunes -- just don't say they're "back." "It's an ongoing thing, just like it always has been," Gaydos emphasizes. "Even when we were doing the record, the band was an ongoing venture, it's just we kinda turned into The Beatles circa '68 at the time!" from the City Paper review. Read more

Expect lots of music, food, games, more food and other fun activities amidst Bloomfield’s unique shops and dozen or so fine restaurants.

As a part of the festival, Creative Tour in Bloomfield will focus on artists, crafters and creative businesses in Bloomfield. Several studios, that are generally not open to the public, will welcome visitors during the festival, on Saturday, September 29. Painters, woodworkers, photographers and sculptors are among the artists presenting work during the open studio event. Some studios will host artists from other parts of Pittsburgh. This is a rare opportunity to view new work by local artists and sample the works on display at some of the venues in Bloomfield where creative work is always on display.

India: New Installations @The Mattress Factory

The Mattress Factory is serving up some interesting panel discussions in conjunction with its current exhibit, India: New Installations. There are several discussions planned, the first of which is tonight. From their website --

Tonight's topic will be "Traditional vs Contemporary Approaches in Visual Art"
7pm, Thursday, September 13th

These questions will be answered: "How do contemporary visual artists relate to, and diverge from, traditional Indian art? Does globalization impact contemporary and traditional arts in India today?"

This panel discussion provides the opportunity for you, the audience, to gain a better understanding of India through dynamic presentations and discussions with renowned experts in the field.

Moderator and Presenter
Dr. Michael W. Meister (W. Norman Brown Professor of South Asian Studies, Dept. of the History of Art, University of Pennsylvania.)

Cost: $10/$5 for members and students

For information about other panel discussion, check their site. There are several on the calendar and it should be an interesting component to their exhibit.
