Here are one of several posts with images of the Gestures show that just closed. The show was stronger than even I had suspected in terms of the work, but it did unfortunately confirm the fears that I wrote about in a previous post. Several of the pieces suffered from conflicting placement, the most glaring being Kate Temple's meditative instalation being put in the room next to Thad Kellstadt's media pop work.

All will be forgiven-- If this does not end up as these artist's sole apearance at The Mattress Factory.

i want to say that the piece i made for "gestures" was not in the place i had intended it. i wanted it to be in the alcove in the opposite corner. huddled, akward and glaring. a gesture to how i felt about being in the show and possibly, now, the idea of the show in general.
when i came to install, the fellow whom i was sharing the room with had already put up his work, which was cool, but it didnt really alot the piece to be in the place i had wished. totally fine.
i think kates piece should have been alone in a room with nothing else. some lady in the cp (who wrote about 4 people in a 20 person show) was bothered by our conflicting placement as well. whatever. i tried to make a balance and make the sound low as not to disturb the obvious meditative nature of her piece.
just my 2 cents.
thanks for writing so much about this show.
