Awesome, Postcards From the Edge Benefit Show In NY Seeks Artists

Artist's get hit up all the time to donate work, something I'm not always in favor of.

The first reason to donate is of course that it's a good cause and organzation behind it. Another is that it's just a great event. IMHO, this is both.

You have your work in a bigtime NY gallery on the wall with many famous artists who commonly donate. Even better, people can't tell until they buy the work, who made it.

Postcards From the Edge is a Visual AIDS benefit show and sale of original, postcard-sized works on paper by established and emerging artists. All works are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The works are signed on the back and exhibited so the artists' signatures cannot be seen. While buyers receive a list of all participating artists, they don't know who created which piece until purchased. All proceeds support the programs of Visual AIDS.

Visual AIDS utilizes art to fight AIDS by provoking dialogue, supporting HIV+ artists, and preserving the legacy -- because AIDS IS NOT OVER!

DEADLINE: Postmark Friday, December 9, 2011 (NO late entries)

We invite artists to donate a 4" x 6" original work on paper for our Postcards From the Edge exhibition and benefit sale. Painting, drawing, photography, printmaking and mixed media are all welcome.

Artists must be 18 years or older to participate. Only one entry per artist.

Saturday Benefit for Dara Greenwald: Print Sale at Just Seeds & Dancing at Brillobox

This is likely a case of the broke helping the broke but A young creative person has cancer and you can help out by checking out a bunch of great prints, zines and other stuff for sale at Just Seeds (free admission) and or showing up for a dance benefit at Brillobox later.

"This Saturday, Mary Tremonte (aka Mary Mack) has helped organize a 3-tiered event to raise money for her friend and cohort Dara Greenwald, who has been working through cancer alongside her partner Josh MacPhee since this past summer. Josh and Dara are important creative forces within the Justseeds Collective. These events are apart of a series happening around the US and are a local effort to lend them a financial hand in their time of great need. People are also encouraged to have a fun time while helping out!"

You have about a month to contribute a piece to one of the best benefit events out there-- The Deadline is November 10th. Artist's get hit up a lot, but this is truely a wonderfully designed event for one of the best causes out there.

Famous in the art world as the most exciting and affordable way to build a collection of work by internationally renowned artists as well as young and emerging artists, all works are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The works are signed on the back and exhibited so the artists' signatures cannot be seen. While buyers have a list of participating artists, they don't know who created which piece until purchased. A collector might end up with a work by a famous artist or someone they don't know yet. Either way, they walk away with a great piece of art while supporting the important work of Visual AIDS.
