After seeing the stunning Palm Beach Modern show @ The Carnegie Museum, I got stoked to see this movie.

"Narrated by Dustin Hoffman, Visual Acoustics celebrates the life and career of Julius Shulman, the world's greatest architectural photographer, who died in July at the age of 98. His images brought modern architecture to the American mainstream and captured the work of nearly every modern and progressive architect since the 1930s including Frank Lloyd Wright and Frank Gehry. His images epitomized the singular beauty of Southern California's modernist movement and brought its iconic structures to the attention of the general public. This beautiful film is both a testament to the evolution of modern architecture and a joyful portrait of the magnetic, whip-smart gentleman who chronicled it with his unforgettable images."

Photo Safari Of Pittsburgh Light Rail System: March 13

For a small city, we have a lot of chances to boost your art making skills and arts knowledge @ Pittsburgh Filmakers, The Pittsburgh Center For The Arts, Artists Image Resource, The Silver Eye and The Society For Contemporary Craft.

This group outing peaked my interest. Chances are I won't do it for cost reasons.

Exhibition Opportunity: Inspired By Books

I found out about this show on the Pittsburgh Filmakers website. The deadline is very soon.

Pittsburgh Filmmakers students, PF/PCA members and staff are invited to participate in a group photography show to be held at the Main Branch of the Carnegie Library during the month of November.

The theme and title of the show is "Inspired by Books".

Anyone interested in participating should bring one print framed and ready to hang to Sue Abramson by Monday October 26th.

Objectified@ Harris Theater

Thanks again to Bittersweet Harvest for the heads up on the opening of a documentary about the process of designing the stuff that makes up our daily existence from the maker of the cult favorite film about a typface, Helvetica at Pittsburgh Filmakers.

Consultants' free-form brainstorming leads from a bristle-replaceable toothbrush to every conceivable variation on dental care. A computer designer waxes poetic on the multifunctionality of a plastic keyboard grid. A car engineer likens automobile models to classical sculptures while, to another, they symbolize drivers' visions of themselves.

But the biggest sea change in the nature of design comes from ecology and accompanying problems of recycling and disposal. As the camera roves the streets of Hoboken, N.J., past rows of discarded appliances half-covered in snow, Hustwit's film shows how artistic, sentimental, environmental and commercial priorities struggle for pre-eminence amid concerns for planetary survival.
