Station To Station Seeks Submissions for Mobile Train Public Art Spectacle.

The Station to Station concept seems to be fleshing out. It's gonna cost $25 to attend and honestly seems more about Art Star theater than real collaborative participation.

Even so-- they say they want your input.

"Send us images that inspire you-- an impromptu moment of beauty, absurdity, poinance or revelation. It can be a parking lot, the back of a bus, a field up-close, someones expression on a train platform- anything that moves you.

Your submissions will appear on our tumblr, and have the chance to be projected as part of the happenings! Help us make Station to Station a true nomadic experience, occurring over borders and beyond boundaries. The train is just the beginning."

The Americans for the Arts conference will be in Pittsburgh this coming June. I'm sure that there are other opportunities happening around this event, so if you know of any let me know! You can download our “Pittsburgh is..” thought bubble for your clever photo creation, or invent your own wheel. Submit your photos through our online form by April 5, 5 pm EST. All submissions will be added to a “Pittsburgh is... photo contest” photo album on our Facebook page for voting (one like = one vote) April 6 through April 12, 5 pm EST. The winner/owner of the most popular photo will be notified on the 12th.

Knit the Bridge

Oh now, this looks like it's going to be a lot of fun! I've been seeing little bits and pieces of yarn bombing around Pittsburgh for a couple years now; an occasional bicycle rack, a tree here or there.
Knit the Bridge is a whole other scale! From their site -

Knit the Bridge is a grassroots, community-led arts project that brings the many diverse communities of Pittsburgh and Southwestern Pennsylvania together to create a large-scale, aesthetically stunning, fiberarts installation on the 7th st./Warhol Bridge in downtown Pittsburgh.

Quite ambitious and what a great way to bring the Fiber International to Pittsburgh's streets. Artists are already working on panels in preparation for the installation. The Fiber International exhibit takes place April 19 - August 18, 2013, so I imagine all of the panels and installation will be taking place sometime in late March or early April.

Call for artists: Figment

I heard about this new-to-Pittsburgh festival during the July edition of Unblurred at ModernFormations. Here it is August and I'm just getting around to posting about it. Yes, it has been a lazy summer. I hope yours has been too. A little history about Figment:

Founded in 2007 on New York City’s Governors Island, what began as a few thousand enthusiasts enjoying a handful of participatory art projects on a sunny July afternoon has ballooned into a multi-day, multi-city event that drew over 30,000 participants in NYC, Boston, Jackson and Detroit in 2011. In 2012, FIGMENT seeks to continue its mission to offer free, inclusive and participatory art to entire communities, removing the barriers of museum and gallery walls and entrance fees and blurring the lines between those who create and those who enjoy art.

It seems, from the documentation of the Figment festival in New York and other host cities, that the festival would welcome experiential projects. So, if you aren't submitting, it might be worth checking out what Pittsburghers will offer in the way of new media and those works that blur the line between community art-making and immersive experience. Submissions are open for Pittsburgh's version of Figment, but your art project must be submitted by September 9, 2012 which is fast approaching. Guidelines and submission link can be found here.

Assemble - Call for artists

Nov 22-28th Call for Artists/Makers/Technologists- Opening this December 3rd, join us for the first annual HyperLocal Show + Art Bazaar at Assemble, a community space for arts + technology.

For this show- we are inviting makers/artists/technologists who live in a 5 to 10 block radius from Assemble to submit one work that they have made. Size is not an issue. Work includes everything but food or edible material. New media art, robots, sculpture are encouraged and so are crafts.

This is open to ALL AGES.

Please drop off your work at Assemble between 4-9pm from Nov22- 28th
