Opportunities for artists

The Americans for the Arts conference will be in Pittsburgh this coming June. I'm sure that there are other opportunities happening around this event, so if you know of any let me know! You can email me at susanconstanse [at] gmail.com and I'll get it up, time permitting. Here's two that came through my email that sound pretty fun...

GPACFrom the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council

Pittsburghers at Large - Enter now for a chance to win one free registration to the main convention or one of three preconferences, AND $50 towards a GPAC membership. How do you enter? Simply illustrate what Pittsburgh is to you via a photo.

You can download our “Pittsburgh is..” thought bubble for your clever photo creation, or invent your own wheel. Submit your photos through our online form by April 5, 5 pm EST. All submissions will be added to a “Pittsburgh is... photo contest” photo album on our Facebook page for voting (one like = one vote) April 6 through April 12, 5 pm EST. The winner/owner of the most popular photo will be notified on the 12th.

I received an email from a good friend, outlining the following upcoming festival:

"Arts In Motion"
Call for Artist

Please respond to the email address provided on the flyer (if you click on the flyer, you'll get a bigger image) by April 15th and pass the word on to any other friends and artists you think would be interested.

Pittsburgh Is Art Day Of Giving Today! Consider The Artist Opportunity Fund Of The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council

As You know, Today if you give to a large list of local organizations--using your credit card through The Pittsburgh Gives Site, your donation will be matched with funds from The Pittsburgh Foundation.

Grants to Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council through the site will help support individual artists.

"Funds raised during the Pittsburgh is Art Day of Giving will be directed entirely to GPAC's Artist Opportunity Fund which helps advance the careers of individual artists by providing funds to support specific extraordinary opportunities that have the potential to significantly impact an artist's
work and professional development."

Follow the link to the full list of arts organizations available for matching funds.

Remember, all donations must be through that site and be made Today!

Speak up

The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council is interested in finding out what our city's artists need --
The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council would like you to tell us how to make the Pittsburgh region a better place for the artists who live and work here.

They are sincerely interested in hearing what you have to say. The survey is primarily interested in nuts and bolts issues about the business and physical making of art. It is not a reflective survey, though, so it is difficult to qualify an answer with something like "Yeah, I need a studio, I know there are some available but I can only afford to pay $150/month for rent and from what I've seen for that amount I may as well work in a parking lot." or "I could use health insurance, but my income only covers my living expenses and some professional expenses." Hmmm. Take the survey here.
