Call for Submissions: Essays, Non-fiction, Photography for Belt Magazine's Pittsburgh Anthology

"HERE’S WHAT WE WANT: We’re looking for nonfiction contributions, but we’re open to photographic essays, comics / illustrations, and poetry. Again, if it expresses something truly Pittsburghese, we want to see it. Work running 750-3000 words is preferred. We will accept proposals until November 15 and finished stories until December 31st; any work which previously appeared elsewhere can be accepted as long as there is permission to do so. We expect to publish the anthology by Spring 2015. Contributors will get to have their friends be jealous of their Pittsburgh pride, but they will also receive free copies of the book, and, if the anthology is successful enough, a split of the proceeds.*"

A call for submissions and proposals

Proposal deadline: October 1, 2014

Submission deadline: November 1, 2014

Publication date: Fall 2015

"We are accepting nonfiction contributions, including essays, profiles and reported works between 500 and 2,000 words that fit with the vision expressed above. Proposals of no more than 300 words are also welcome. We will work with writers on pieces that show promise.Payment will be $100* upon publication.

Contributions are needed for the following sections:

• Family (culture, neighborhoods, attachments)
• Loss (violence, steel, racial and ethnic conflict)
• Transcendence (arts, sports, religion)
• Work (new business, new politics, redevelopment)

We are also looking for work from documentary photographers and graphic artists with a Youngstown connection. Work will be published in black and white. Poetry will be considered, but the bar is extremely high. Please do not submit works of fiction."

New Regional Art Site, Art Hopper seeks writers

This comment was left on my post about Art Hopper by one of the site founders.

Thank your for highlighting the new site. Arthopper launched on January 1, 2012. The similarity to Glasstire is not an accident. I went to graduate school in San Antonio, love Glasstire, and wanted to recreate the experience here.

Any any all suggestions, comments and criticisms are welcome and encouraged. We want the site to work for all and to be a real community asset.

Buffalo is on the list of cities to add but we cannot do it all at once. If you know writers who are interested in submitting content please have them contact me. We are a volunteer effort now but will me moving toward a paid "society of correspondents."

Rick, I enjoy your work in Pittsburgh and hope we are able to collaborate.

John, we would welcome opinion pieces from you as well as important arts issues pieces.
