Doug Aitken's Art Train Tour to stop in Pittsburgh

Yet another grand spectacle put together by a famous "art star".
Still, the concept of a train of artists, musicians putting together a traveling multi media spectacular is also filled with too much promise to ignore. The project is also billed as a moving workspace.

Interestingly, some of the 10 nationwide stops are obscure stations.

DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 17TH @ 5 PM

This is a group show where artists are invited to enter up to 3 pieces of found/collected or constructed/created art or artifacts related to Pittsburgh. All forms of media are acceptable, including audio, video, posters, prints, paintings, drawings, installations, state of the art technology, or artifacts. All art or artifacts must be accompanied by a biography of the artist/collector, and an Artist Statement of how the submission(s) relates to the above theme. All documents may be edited as deemed appropriate or necessary by the curator. PLEASE note we would like a unique perspective of Pittsburgh, with a limited number of the beautiful, but often seen, downtown skylines. WE would like to include pieces that contribute to the flavor of Pittsburgh’s diversity, including its history and neighborhoods. Also note Pittsburgh Artists may include relocated artists, either those who are no longer living in Pittsburgh, or people who have moved here from somewhere else. Artwork of by posthumous artists may also be submitted. Please NOTE this is a juried show. There is no guarantee that one or all of your works will be accepted, though emerging as well as established artists are encouraged to enter!

The deadline for this exhibition is Saturday September 17th at 5 pm. The gallery will be accepting proposals and artwork from 2 – 5 pm. The Architecture of Loss

Digging Pitt artist Jessica Fenlon is a woman of many talents--video artist, violinist, still photographer,
printmaker, graphic designer, and a poet with a book due out on Six Gallery Press later this year. Currently she has a lovely show up at the Te Cafe on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill. In addition to the prints on the walls, the closing party this Sunday night will feature a three hour loop of her newest video project, "VIGIL: Miro Street: Ninth Ward: New Orleans: June 16 & 17" shot last month in the Crescent City's most devastated section. Art Fair Orgy : Diva Containers

A lot of people seem to have found the Diva Fair a drag. I missed it, but I am grateful for the few cargo containers that I ran into. Except at the Red Dot and Fountain, where I found a number of people a bit too happy to see anyone; there was a minimal interest in interacting with the city. Diva at least played that role even if they were just trying to get blogger pawns like me to buzz about them. I saw exactly two containers so my opinion about the work has no value.
