Blog in Temporary Slowdown Mode

My personal posts will be in slowdown mode as I go through a period of "restructuring", and rethinking.

The current, goal of having an active group blog looking at the good and bad of the art scene here and the real economic and social impact of good and bad design on the lives of people in the Cleveburgh region isn't close to being met.

The bad news is that I just don't see much upside in investing too much of my time in a blog too few are reading and participating in. (You can see my comments in places like Urbanophile) The good news is that several new people may be coming on board in the next few months with wider views of urbanism and the Cleveland Art world.

Until then, things are most likely to slow down but not die out to a few posts a week. Of course, you could breath life back in by contributing posts.

If you have thoughts, events, insight or images you want to share about art, music, film, urban design, architecture, transit or history in the Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Youngstown, Erie, Morgantown, Akron, Canton region--Cleveburgh, email me diggingpitt@gmail.com. We can hook you up to post.

Cleveburgh Art Roundup Coming Up

I will finally get a May roundup of regional gallery, museum and other visual arts events up by the end of the day.

The blog's basic concept from the start was supposed to be a group blog with a wide diversity of views about the arts in first Pittsburgh and then the wider region. As it is now, I don't feel entirely guilty about not delivering all my promised reviews and content on schedule. Hopefully, in the near future things will get better. I've had a little positive input from Cleveland and some new contributors may be helping out soon, allowing me to do more in depth posts and follow ups.

Blog Not Dead But Needs Help

Hello, sorry for not posting, I've been pretty busy and distracted, partly by dialogs and interactions on other more active blogs like Urbanophile, and to a much lesser extent Rust Wire and others.

I guess, I also get down comparing the blog with what I hoped it would be--some kind of active forum to see and talk about the city and it's creative communities from a variety of perspectives and view points, both from inside the region and outside.

"Art, Urban Design, Transit, Chaos and all that. A blog about really making Pittsburgh into one of the country's most creative and livable cities."

I still want that and I know there are enough smart involved people here blogging to get together and do something like that. I think we can see a string of days or posts on here that give a glimpse of the potential.

I'm still looking for people who think they can add a few posts a month and comments are always welcome. (I mean comments beyond-- Great blog, if you need auto repairs go to Joe Sixpack)

Pitch For More Bloggers Again

Well, we have another very active calendar of art openings, films, events and performances, plus an even fuller line up of related issues about free speech, arts funding, new media, no photography policies but still have far too few people contributing to this blog to make a dent.

Luckily there are a number of new and now pretty decent people covering things on Bittersweet Harvest, City Creative, Pittsburgh Art + Technology and the revived Pittsburgh Art Blog to add to the trusty POP City, I Heart Pittsburgh and improved coverage in The Post Gazette and City Paper.

As to the other main area of my at least personal interest-- blogs covering the local nexus of mass transit, walkable urban design, parking and the local economy pretty much don't exist. There's Bike Pittsburgh, City Walkabout and not much else. It's hard to be bullish on a region that won't talk about some of it's most important issues.

If you think you can contribute to our coverage with one post a month, please shoot us an email.

As to potential payment. I actually think there is a decent chance of adding a bit of advertising or perhaps other revenues but ironically we are just too short of time to get a handle on this--mostly because we are posting.

I will be back with more thoughts.

We Still Need Bloggers

It's kind of official- Pittsburgh now has way too much stuff going on be covered by one or two unpaid people. It was always my hope that we could have a large number of people- at least 10 posting on all the diverse events, opportunities and issues in the Pittsburgh regional art scene. This would then allow us time to redesign the blog into a possible magazine format and perhaps figure out ways to get a little compensation for our efforts through advertising.

I am trying very hard to keep the energy going through the G20. As thousands of reporters, bloggers and others turn their googly eyes and web browsers in our direction, it's important they get a good look at all the great things going on here.

We really need posters! See the side for details and if you think you can do one post a month on here about Pittsburgh's broad cultural scene- send an email.
